MENORRHAGIA,causes,signs/symptoms,diagnosis and treatment.

MENORRHAGIA

Menorrhagia is the heavy and prolonged bleeding during the monthly menstrual cycles.

CAUSES

1- imbalance of estrogen and progesterone hormones.

2- uterine fibroids.

3- pelvic inflammatory diseases.

4- cancer of uterus.

5- bleeding disorders.

6- use of IUCDs.

CLINICAL FEATUREs

a-->heavy menstrual bleeding lasting more then 7 days.

b--> have spotting or bleeding between period.

DIAGNOSIS

1_ Blood test for anemia.

2_Pap test.

3_Pelvic ultrasound.

4_Biopsy.

5_Hysteroscopy.

TREATMENT

(1) Prostaglandin inhibitors-NSAIDs i.e-ibuprofen.

(2) Birth control pills- norethisterone.

(3) Cap- tranexamic acid

(4) Calcium supplement

(5) Iron supplement if anemic.
